How to Play Online VR Games on Oculus Go?
- Download and Install the Oculus app for your mobile device (iOS or Android)
- Open the Oculus app and log in with your Facebook account
- Click “Games” at the top of the screen
- Select “Oculus Quest” from the list of apps
- Tap “Play”
- You will be prompted to download the Oculus Quest game you want to play

Until very recently, standalone VR devices were just dreams.
There are two main types of VR devices available today: mobile-based ones where you have to plug a relatively powerful phone into a headset; and tethered ones that require a separate computer or console to power them.
The first type of device is cheap and doesn’t need any wires, but only works with a few relatively expensive smartphones. The second type of device requires even more expensive hardware and uses awkward cords.
We’re starting to see some really good standalone VR devices.
The Lenovo Mirage Solo is a Google Daydream powered headset that doesn’t require a phone or a computer. It’s not quite as immersive as what you’d be able to achieve using a tethered device.
The Oculus Go is less powerful than the Mirage solo, but costs half as moe at $199 (for 16GB; a 32GB version is available for 199).
It has a comfy design and an easy-to-use interface making it a good choice for curious people who want to experience VR without spending too much money.
It’s the best beginner VR headset we’ve ever used, even though it doesn’t quite meet our Editors’ Choice criteria.
Design
It has a similar design to the Google Daydream View headset, but without the fabric covering the visors.
It’s a plain grey plastic visor with a non-descript flat surface bearing only the Oculus logo at the uppermost point. At the bottom edge of the visor, there is a power button, rockers for adjusting the volume, and an indicator lamp.
On the right side of the headset, there are two buttons — one for volume up/down and another for play/pause. There’s no microphone button.
There isn’t a microSD card slot on the Mirage Solo, which means you’re limited to either 32GB or 64GB worth of internal memory.
Motion Controls
The included controller is quite similar to the Daydream controller included with the Daydream View and Mirage Solo, with some minor but welcome changes.
It’s still a 3D motion controller that doesn’t follow your hands like the Oculus Touch or Vive controllers but has a clickable touchpad and physical back and home/Oculus button.
The Oculus Go remote offers a front-facing trigger button, an ergonomically designed grip that feels more like a gun than a remote controller, and comes with a wrist strap so you don’t lose it. It also uses an AAA battery for power.
Unlike the controllers, the Oculus Go itself isn’t 6DOF, which makes it noticeably less capable than the HTC Vive, Oculus Rifts, PlayStation VRs, every Windows Mixed Reality headset, and the Mirage Solo (which has 6DOF).
3Dof means the headset can track movement and determine where you’re looking, but not whether you’re moving forward, backward, up, down, left, right, or sideways relative to your current location.
One of the disadvantages of using the Oculus Go is that most VR software must be stationary. You won’t ever be able to experience full room-scale VR because there isn’t any tracking technology available for the Oculus Go.
Hardware
The Oculus Go has a similar resolution to the Mirage Solo, but its screen isn’t OLED, so it lacks some of the colors and contrast found in the other headsets.
It has a refresh frequency that varies between 60Hz and 72 Hz, which is lower than the 75Hz refresh frequency of the Mirage Solo, but higher than the 90Hz to 120 Hz refresh rates of tethered headsets (such as Oculus Go).
On an LCD screen, its pictures still look crisp, but the vast expanse of space in sci-fi games and science applications doesn’t look quite as black as it does on OLED screens.
The headset uses a lower-powered Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor than the one used by the Mirage Solo, or even the most high-end smartphones released in 2017.
The VR edition of the Snapdragon 821 processor is overclocked, so its performance should be slightly better than the phone edition, but it’s still not as fast as the processors in most other headsets.
But, like all smartphone-powered VR headsets, it cannot match the graphical power of tetrahedron-shaped VR headsets like the HTC VIVE, Oculus Rift, or PlayStation VR.
Obviously, all of those VR headsets require expensive hardware investments, which makes them an excellent choice if you want to play games but don’t want to spend too much money.
You can use your personal headphones or earbuds with the Oculus Go, or you can connect them to the device’s built-in speakers.
Headphones that don’t touch your ear canal use speakers to project sound directly into your ear. These headphones use a set of small speakers instead of one large driver.
It’s surprising how well it works, and the sound leaking from what you’re hearing into what others are hearing is less than you would expect.
If you don’t need complete audio isolation from others, use the headset instead of the speakers. However, it won’t be nearly as loud for others as it is for your own ears.
Software
Compared to the Oculus Rift’s more sophisticated VR library, the Oculus Store on the Oculus GO is much closer to the Samsung Gear VR’s Oculus-based VR library.
There are several popular movie and TV-watching applications available, but most include an Oculus Go version.
You don’t need an official YouTube app for watching YouTube videos on the Mirage Solo, though you can watch them using the integrated web browsers.
There are also several applications available for browsing different libraries of 360-degree videos, looking at space in VR, and various other interesting applications.
