What Games Did Capcom Make?
Capcom is an old company that started off by designing “capsule computers“. This is a term they used for arcade machines to make their separate entity apart from personal computers used in homes.
The game studio’s big break came during the 80s when they made original character series like Mega Man famous as “Rockman” in Japan. Then they went on producing games like “Marvel vs Capcom”, which is indeed a success in itself.
However, these are not the only projects of the game studio. Following is a list of some of the well-known games they have worked on:
1. Street Fighter 2
This is a game that had an impact on competitive video gaming, and broader popular culture. These include movies and music, as well as the arcade video game business and ultimately sparked a renaissance in the industry.
For Street Fighter 2, Capcom utilized the CP System arcade system board.
The usage of special command-based moves, a combo system, a six-button layout, and the availability of a larger cast of playable characters made it a memorable game. Additionally, each character has their own fighting style. They were all upgraded in Street Fighter II compared to the original game.
Revenue
Street Fighter II is one of the top three highest-grossing video games of all time as of 2017 and the best-selling fighting game till 2019.
It has sold more than 200,000 arcade machines and 15 million software units globally, generating an estimated $10 billion in total revenue.
2. X-Men: Children of the Atom
This is a game based on X-Men by Marvel comics. The combo system in Children of the Atom offers lengthy combos that can even be executed in mid-air.
The game also includes a number of tactical moves, such as the characters’ rolling ability. Characters would descend into lower levels of the level as the ground gave way in Children of the Atom’s multi-tiered fighting environments.
These ideas and the game’s rapid-fire gameplay would serve as the inspiration for Capcom’s Marvel vs. Capcom franchise.
Review
Although the 2D fighting game genre is oversaturated, X-Men: Children of the Atom still manages to be very entertaining.
We found that character recognition of the X-Men enhances the experience, as does the fluid animation, vibrant graphics, and balance of character strengths and weaknesses.
Furthermore, maximum acclaim is offered for the conversion’s fidelity, with claims that the graphics and gameplay has been faithfully reproduced while being practically identical to the arcade original.
3. Bowlingo
Capcom entered the bowling market in 1990 with Bowlingo. It was a fully automated, coin-operated, electro-mechanical small ten-pin bowling facility. However, the arena and pace were smaller than usual, and it earned most of its earnings in North America.
The game was designed to be smaller and less expensive for amusement arcades and was smaller than a typical bowling alley. When it was first released in North America in 1990, Bowlingo generated a sizable profit.
By early 1991, it had achieved commercial success in North America, selling roughly 12,000 arcade units.
4 DmC: Devil May Cry
Capcom distributed Japanese independent “Doujin soft games” in collaboration with Nyu media which localized this genre into the English language. The most famous game series produced in this genre is “DmC: Devil May Cry”.
A hack and slash action-adventure video game DmC: Devil May Cry in which Players assume the role of Dante, who uses his abilities and arsenal to battle adversaries and make his way through the perilous Limbo.
The game takes place in the series’ alternate reality. The game’s plot is set in Limbo City, a contemporary metropolis secretly ruled by all-powerful demons who use modern conveniences to subjugate humans.
Revenue
By the end of its fiscal year, Capcom had initially anticipated shipping 2 million copies; later, it lowered its estimates to 1.2 million copies shipped. Capcom cited “slow responsiveness to the rising digital contents industry” as one of their justifications.
The Definitive Edition sold an additional 1.2 million copies, bringing the total number of copies sold across all versions to 3.8 million in 2021. The Original Version sold 2.6 million copies globally.
5. Monster Hunter series
The majority of the games in the Monster Hunter series are action role-playing games. As part of tasks assigned to them by locals, the player assumes the role of a Hunter who must kill or capture enormous beasts throughout a variety of landscapes.
You should know that up until the release of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate on the Nintendo 3DS, the series was not particularly well-liked in the West.
Capcom recognized the opportunity for further expansion in the West, where Monster Hunter’s popularity was still limited to a small group, and took steps to better localize the series’ subsequent games.
As a result, Monster Hunter 4 was the first game in the series to surpass one million sales in Western regions.
Revenue
With 21 million sales as of July 5, 2022, it is Capcom’s single best-selling video game of all time and the best-selling Monster Hunter game within three days of its debut.
The game series, which follows Resident Evil as Capcom’s second best-selling series, has sold 84 million units globally as of 2022.
Netflix movie
In his debut as a filmmaker, Steve Yamamoto created the American CG animated fantasy movie Monster Hunter: Legends of the Guild. It is based on the Monster Hunter video game series by Capcom. The movie released in 2021.
