Are you wondering how to cast VR to Roku TV?
Let’s find out.
How to Cast VR to Roku TV?
- Connect your VR headset by selecting its device.
- Go to the Roku app on your smartphone and tap Cast To.
- Connect your Roku TV to your computer so they’re linked together.
How to Cast Oculus (Meta) Quest 2 to Roku TV
- First, make sure that your Chromecast and your Oculus Quest 2 are connected to the same Wi‑Fi network.
- Then, change your Roku TV’s input/output device from HDMI to Chromecast (HDMI).
- To start casting, first, turn on your Quest headset, then select “Cast” from the menu.
- Select your Roku TV.
It’s just that easy.
You won’t be able to use your Roku TV without an additional Chromecast device.
If you don’t have Chromecast, there’s an easy workaround – you can cast from your smartphone or laptop to your Roku TV first, then use your smartphone or laptop screen as a remote control for your Roku TV.
Confirm Chromecast and Quest 2 Are on the Same WiFi Network
If you’re casting from an Oculus Quest 2 device to a Roku TV, you need both devices to be connected to the same Wi‑Fi network.
Dual-Band
Most routers now have what‘s called dual-band radios which give you the ability to connect multiple devices to either the 2.4 GHz network or the 5.0 GHz network.
Separate Networks
Dual-band routers allow for faster speeds and greater stability than single-band routers. They avoid connection problems and interference and offer better performance overall.
However, this can be problematic if you’re trying to cast your Quest 2 from your computer to Roku TV.
If your Chromecast is connected via Wi‑Fi to the 2.4 GHz network and your Quest 2 device is connected via Wi‑FI to the 5.0 GHz network, then you cannot cast from one device to another.
Just take a quick look at both devices to see if they’re connected to the same WiFi network.
Check your Chromecast WiFi Network
To see which WiFi network your Chromecasts are connected to:
- On your phone, open up the Google Home app. Make sure your phone is also connected to the Wi‑Fi network you’re trying to connect to your Chromecast device.
- Select your phone from within the app
- Click on Settings (the gear symbol) at the top right corner of your screen.
- Select Wi-Fi
You should now be able to connect your Chromecast to your Wi‑Fi network. If it isn’t connected to the right network, you’ll need to click “forget” and set up your Chromecast again.
We just need to confirm that our Oculus Quest 2 is connected to the same Wi‑Fi network as our Oculus Go.
Connecting to your Meta (Oculus) Quest 2 WiFi network.
To learn which Wi‑Fi network your Oculus Quest 2 headset is currently connected to
- Select Apps on the home screen
- Go to Settings > Devices > then select “Device”
- Select Wi-Fi
You should now be able to connect your Oculus Quest 2 to your computer using the USB cable provided.
Change Roku TV Input to Chromecast (HDMI)
We’ve now confirmed that both your Oculus (Meta2) Quest and your Chromecast are located on the same WiFi network. We’d like to choose which device is used for the gamepad.
To change the input for your Roku TV, follow these steps:
- Click on Home
- Then SETTINGS
- Select TV INPUTS
- Finally, set up INPUT for the input you wish to switch to.
You can now add an additional source for your Roku by clicking on this new icon. All you need to do is return to the main menu and select this option.
Before you return to Home, you should rename the file so it’ll be easier to find later.
For example, if your Chromecast is connected to HDMI 2 (HDMI port number 2), rename the HDMI 2 input to “Chromecast” and add this as a Tile to your Roku homepage.
Next time you use your Roku device, simply press HOME < CHROMECAST in order to switch from the old HDMI 1 port to the new HDMI 2 port!
Cast Oculus (Meta) Quest 2 to Roku TV
At this point, your Chromecast, Oculus (Meta) Quest2, and Roku TV are connected to the same WiFi router and they’re all displaying content from the same source.
Now it’s time to cast!
- Press the power button on the left of the headset to turn on your Meta (Oculus) Quest 2.
- On the home screen, tap Share followed by Cast.
- You’ll see an option for casting to your Roku TV and your Quest 2. Just select them both and they should be connected.
Now you should be able to see your Oculus Quest 2 on your Roku TV.
How to Cast Oculus (Meta) Quest 2 to Phone and Then Mirror to Roku TV?
You can still cast your Oculus Quest 2 to your Roku television even if you don’t own a Chromecast device.
Your first cast your Quest 2 to a smartphone, then you mirror your smartphone to a Roku TV.
1. Casting Oculus (Meta) Quest 2 to your phone
To cast your Oculus Go to your phone, follow these steps:
- Download and open up the Meta Quest app
- Apple App Store
- Google Play Store
- Turn on your Oculus Meta Quest 2 headset
- Press the Oculus Touch Controller’s “Oculus” menu option to open it
- Click Share and then click Cast.
- This time, choose the “Oculus” app.
- You’ll see a prompt in the Meta Quest app for your device. Click “Start Casting”.
2. Mirror your phone to your Roku TV
Now that we’ve got your Quest 2 casting set up for your Roku TV, we just need to get it mirrored to your phone.
NOTE: Make sure your phone is connected to the same WiFi network as the Roku TV and the Quest 2.
Mirroring Using an Apple Device
We first need to check if AirPlay is enabled on our Roku TV.
If you want to see if your Roku remote has an option for turning on AirPlay, go to your Roku remote and look under Settings > Apple Airplay and Homekit. Make sure “AirPlay” is turned on.
If you’ve just set your TV back to its factory defaults, it may have disabled AirPlay.
NOTE: If you don’t see the “Apple” and “Airplay” options, you might need to perform an upgrade on your Roku TV or streaming device. If you don’t see them after the upgrade, your Roku TV may be incompatible with AirPlay.
After turning on AirPlay, it’s now ready for us to mirror our Apple device(s) to our Roku TV.
To access the Control Center, simply swipe down on the screen from the top right-hand side of your device. You’ll see a small image-in-image icon (locate just below the lock button) which you can click on.
To start screen mirroring, click on the device icon in the top right corner of your iPhone. Then select “Screen Mirroring” from the menu that appears. Finally, choose your Roku TV from the drop-down menu.
If you enter your PIN, then your iPhone or iPad is now cast to your Roku TV. That’s it!
Mirroring Using a Non-apple Device
You can also use your Android phone or tablet to stream content from your Roku TV. Some Roku TVs even let you mirror their screens to your mobile device.
Enable Screen Mirroring on Roku TV
You first need to ensure that the “Mirror Your Device” feature is turned on for your Roku TV.
If you want to see if your screen mirroring works, go to Settings > System > Screen Mirroring.
Make sure the screen mirroring option is set to “Always Allow” or “Prompt!”
On your device, enable the screen mirroring function.
Now we need to turn on screen mirroring for our non-Apple devices.
Each smartphone has its own name for the “mirror” function. Be sure to check out the manual if you’re not familiar with your device.
- Smart mirror
- Mirroring
- Miracast
- Wireless display
- Mirror share
- Screencast
- Screen share
- Multi-screen
Find this feature on your mobile phone and enable it. Your phone should begin searching for nearby Bluetooth-enabled devices. Tap on your Roku TV to connect.
If you’re using an Apple TV, go into Settings > System > Permissions > Allow Apps from Unknown Sources. Then, when prompted, tap OK.
That’ll do it. You now know everything you need to get started.
